Lots of older babies and toddlers love the freedom to move they have in their manduca® without the back extension. Others – and their parents – appreciate the extra support the extension provides, particularly when little one gets tired.
You can easily open the hidden back extension – folded away behind the zip on the main panel –whenever you like. After all, we’re sure your toddler will enjoy being able to put its arms into the carrier and cuddle up to Mummy’s or Daddy’s back...

A great team with the infant seat insert
It should be pretty clear by now that the infant seat insert helps small babies to sit a bit further up in the carrier. But what if the baby is already ‚sticking out‘ over the top of the main panel?
The solution is simple: just open the back extension!
The main panel of the manduca® should always reach well up to the baby’s neck and higher, to ensure baby is supported properly. This is why the infant seat insert and the back extension are the perfect combination for no-longer-newborns (from about 4 weeks to about 12 weeks).
Now and again – just as you need
When you are using the manduca® for front carries, the back extension can be used instead of the head support. If your baby falls asleep in the carrier, simply unzip the back extension and baby has perfect support while it slumbers. With a bit of practice you will even be able to zip it back up again without having to take baby out of the carrier. Try it out!
Do you have a particularly active baby who wriggles around, lunges to the side and keepy trying to launch himself out of the carrier? Many parents who recognise this description use the back extension to feel safer wearing their child - it makes teh back support extend up past the baby's shoulders and stops the baby stretching himself too far back.
